Enter The Poet - Imagining L. Hughes Once More
The Poet Speaks of Hope
I've known hope:
I've known hope as aged as the earth and more prehistoric than the first civilizations.
My soul is made stronger in hope.
I found strength in hope as my children played near the Serengeti
I dreamed in hope trapped in chains below wooden decks.
I sang of hope in hymns as I picked white puffy patches.
I heard of hope, as Lincoln proclaimed freedom, after a
sorrowful war between brothers, and I could now partake
in a share of the continental dream, along with a voice
I've known hope:
Aged, unforgotten hope.
My soul is made stronger in hope.
