Enter The Poet - Imagining E.B.Browning

Do I Love Thee? (Sonnet 2)
by al brown

Do I love thee? Is there a way to tell?
Is there a limit to how deep or how far?
My inner being is willing to strive or scar
For this knowledge, in which, I may dwell.

To what degree of love, is there a measure?
With what intensity; such as a lamp or as our sun
Will I love you throughout things said and done?
Does my love hold substance, or simple pleasure?

Will I love you with passion, strong and of use?
With the belief of a child, and through sorrows past
Is it a steadfast love, and not one I might lose?

If I have lost my faith, will my love remain true?
Through the awesome tolls of sorrow and life
Will it have the vitality to survive what death can accrue?
