Enter The Poet - Proposing A Thought
Why I Hate Poetry
I am a writer; that is, I know how to write, so I do. I can write long sweeping pompous sentences that wind slowly down the page; but mean nothing, or short sentences, which get to the point. Either way, like most of us, some of us, enough of us, I write. I can't and will not say it's the fun, but I must say that it is important; it is important to express and document ideas, truths, lies, hopes, dreams, fears, and history. These are the very things, on which, human civilization is founded upon. Without the sharing of information, I believe that we would stagnate and die out.
Now, what does any of this have to do with poetry? I don't know; I just felt that this needed to be expressed before beginning any argumentative points. Nevertheless, my point about poetry is this; I don't hate its existence, just its place in our society. It is an art form, and thereby made subjective in the concept. It can be the embodiment of all we truly are, but made marginal by stating it's poorly written, or just not written by someone of note. Poetry can express ideas, truths, lies, hopes, dreams, fears, and history, but be ignored, because Tom Smith (intended fictional famous person) did not pen the words.
This bothers me, why? It bothers me because I am a poet, currently unknown and un-regarded; even so, I am a fantastic poet. My words have reached out, and transcended flesh and caressed hearts, pulsated as sound waves to reverberate into inner meditations, reflected on optical nerves to gain life as conscious thought; but such are the talents of ANY good poet. However, unless acknowledged, my might in words have no more significance than tears shed over an unshared love.
Perhaps, it is not Poetry which I hate; but society's ability to add or subtract value to valid words and ideas, of a poem; merely over the esteem assessed by the person who penned those words and ideas.
